With the increase in availability and reduction in cost of Automated External Defibrillators the need for effective, flexible training has increased.  WorkSafe Training Systems provides instructor training to those who are looking to train others in the safe use of AED’s.  WorkSafe provides all the material you will need to deliver AED training to your students.  This includes comprehensive, full colour student manual, easy-follow lesson plans and graphical presentations with integrated video footage.
(N.B. Student materials are purchased separately to the instructor training and are designed for single person use).

The AED Instructor Course is designed to build on any existing knowledge the instructor has and will provide further in-depth knowledge into; heart related problems, the chain of survival, safe and effective AED use and typical AED scenarios.  Previous experience in using an AED is not a pre-requisite for acceptance on this programme as the full student level programme will be undertaken during the instructor course.

On successful completion, instructors will be approved to deliver the WorkSafe AED programme to students and purchase WorkSafe AED student materials. Certification of students trained by the instructor will be provided by WorkSafe Training Systems on receipt of a class register and is valid for 12 months from completion date.  An AED re-qualification option is available for annual retraining at a reduced cost and supplied without the student manual. This option may only be used where students have undertaken a WorkSafe AED programme previously and hold the current AED reference manual.

Course Programme:

The course follows a syllabus set over 4 hours and includes:

• Introduction and Welcome
• Chain of Survival
• Basic Life Support Revision inc. Use of Pocket Mask
• Heart Anatomy and Heart Problems
• The AED unit
• Using the AED
• AED Safety and Other Considerations
• Scenario’s utilising the AED 
• Administration of WorkSafe AED programme
• Assessment

The AED Instructor Programme will be conducted by a member of the WorkSafe Instructor Development team, all of whom are currently involved with regular delivery of all WorkSafe programmes and have many years experience in the field.  The course tutor will ensure all delegates obtain maximum benefit from their attendance on the programme.  The syllabus has been designed to allow plenty of times to consolidate skills and ensure instructors complete the course feeling confident in being able to deliver AED training.  Additional time is also available for further skill development where required.

Venue:  Normally delivered from our training premises but may be delivered on site where requested.

It should be noted that the WorkSafe AED Instructor Programme will enable the instructor to deliver programmes designed and awarded by WorkSafe Training Systems.  The qualification does not necessarily give the instructor an award to deliver training programmes awarded by other organisations.  Individual organisations are responsible for their own instructor qualifications although APL may be awarded by some.
